Kaesler Old Bastard Shiraz 2007 1.5L, Barossa Valley
Even in what can be said to be a tough vintage, the 2007 Kaesler Old Bastard Shiraz has remained steady and is just as impressive as previous vintages, scoring between 92 and 95 points from wine critics both locally and abroad. Displaying the bold yet elegant old bastard style, the 2007 should cellar well into the 2020's.
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate - 92 pts - The same is true for the flagship 2007 Shiraz Old Bastard, sourced from a 114 year old vineyard. It has superb aromatics much like The Bogan but comes off as a bit more compact and forward than the better vintages. Tasty, ripe, and long, this is an outstanding effort at an extravagant price. - Dec 2009James Halliday's Wine Companion - 95 pts - Deep colour; a hilarious new label depicting said old bastard does not herald any change in the style of this wine, made from a small estate block planted in 1893. Rich, supple and velvety, it is able to carry its alcohol; it is chock-full of dark berry flavours. Date tasted 23 Jan 2010, drink by 2027
