Kay Brothers Block 6 Shiraz 2010 750ml, McLaren Vale
A powerful wine, the 2010 Kay Brothers Block 6 Shiraz may indeed have the foundations to last until 2050, as suggested by the crew at the Australian Wine Companion. Only time will tell.
James Halliday's Wine Companion - 95 pts - The estate-grown grapes from 118-year-old vines were open-fermented, basket-pressed, and the wine then spent 20 months in new American and Baltic oak. The colour is deep and the palate full-bodied, with multiple layers of blackberry fruit that have largely absorbed the oak. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate - 95+ pts - Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2010 Block 6 Shiraz is still a bit closed and youthful displaying aromas of blackberries, cassis, wild blueberries and licorice accented by lovely floral and aniseed notes. Very taut, rich and concentrated with firm, grainy tannins and crisp acid, it is quite muscular and backwards at the moment - it is a beast that needs time. Drink it now to 2026+. - Feb 2014
