Expert Reviews

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate - 92 pts - The 2001 Shiraz Ares (100% Barossa Valley Shiraz) was previewed last year from barrel, and is even better from bottle. Its stunning nose of subtle new oak interwoven with blackberry liqueur and acacia flowers is followed by a full-bodied, rich, concentrated Shiraz with tremendous power, symmetry, and a deep, thick, long finish. Despite its large size, it is an elegant, tremendously rich, long beauty with at least 10-15 years of aging ahead of it. - Aug 2003

James Halliday's Wine Companion - 94 pts - Medium to full red-purple; the rich and complex bouquet has ripe, but not the least jammy, black fruits with hints of earth and vanilla; an extremely powerful, savoury palate has layers of blackberry fruit with built-in tannins; great length and cohesion; a minimum ten-year proposition. A trendy label where the front (meaningless except for its graphics) is the back, and vice versa. Date tasted 28 Mar 2003, drink by 2021

Wine Spectator - 95 pts - Rich, ripe and preternaturally long, with a huge explosion of black cherry, plum and exotic spices up front and the whole range echoing beautifully as the fine tannins wrap up the finish, hitting peppermint, licorice and toasty notes. Best from 2005 through 2015. 20 cases imported. -HS, Sep 2003
