Penfolds Bin 407 Cabernet Sauvignon 2011 750ml, South Australia
Wine Spectator - 90pts - Firm in texture, with crunchy tannins around a sleek core of currant and red plum flavors, pushing against the grip of the finish. This has depth, but needs time to sort itself out. Best after 2015 - HSRobert Parker's Wine Advocate - 91+ pts - Aged in 50% new oak of which 30% is French, the very deep purple-black colored 2011 Bin 407 Cabernet Sauvignon presents pure, pronounced cassis aromas wed to underlying Mediterranean herb, cedar, pencil lead and menthol notes. Medium-bodied and taut in the mouth, with just enough expressive fruit to meet the firm, grainy tannins and lively acid, it finishes with good length. 2,715 bottles were made. Drink it 2014 to 2021+. - Feb 2014.
James Halliday's Wine Companion - 92 pts - Benefiting in no small part from relegation of fruit otherwise destined for Bin 707 and 169, this is a varietally accurate style of black and redcurrant fruit, capsicum and dried herbs. It's tangy, crunchy, lively, fragrant and earthy, finishing edgy with firm tannins and green capsicum notes.Date tasted 26 Jan 2014. Drink by 2026
