Kaesler Old Vine Shiraz 2001 750ml, Barossa Valley

Kaesler Old Vine Shiraz 2001 750ml, Barossa Valley

Forming part of Kaesler Wines Limited Release Label, the 2001 Old Vine Shiraz is showing its great aging potential, still displaying an abundance of black fruit and a hint of mocha. While this wine is one to drink over the next few years, it should hold up until 2019.

Expert Reviews

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate - 90 pts - The exceptional 2001 Shiraz Old Vine (from 110- and 40-year old vines) was aged 24 months in French and American oak, and bottled unfiltered. A saturated ruby/purple color is followed by sumptuous aromas of creosote, blueberries, blackberries, melted licorice, and a hint of espresso. Sweet and full-bodied, with copious fruit as well as style and grace, it is tempting to say these wines are too big and rich, but they are controlled, with surprisingly fine definition. This 2001 should drink well for 10-15 years. - Aug 2003

James Halliday - 94pts - Great colour; excellent richness and depth to the blackberry/black plum fruit; deft tannin and oak management. Date tasted 05 Dec 2003, drink by 2016

Wine Spectator - 92 pts - Ripe and generous, a big, round wine that bursts with black currant, blackberry and licorice flavors on a polished, generous frame. A classic Barossa Shiraz that manages to keep from going over the top. Drink now through 2015. 500 cases made. -HS, May 31 2004
